LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert hosting Open House and Food Drive

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KESQ) - The LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert is hosting an Open House and Food Drive on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at its Food Bank in Palm Springs.

This marks one year since the Food Bank relocated to its expanded location at 2901 East Alejo Road, and officials say the need for it is greater than ever, especially in light of the government shutdown.

The weekly distribution of food went from 250 to 500 households in recent months.

LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert Director of Food Security Charles Huff says, "Even before the shutdown there were other factors, the economy. We have a lot of seniors who are on fixed incomes. And as prices rise, their income is not rising. So it becomes precarious for a lot of people."

News Channel 3's Peter Daut spoke with Huff to get more information on Friday's event.

The Center's Food Bank is open to everyone in the community.
