Desert Regional Medical Center celebrates 35 years with Comprehensive Cancer Center
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KESQ) - Desert Regional Medical Center's Comprehensive Cancer Center is considered a game changer for our valley when it comes to cancer treatment, and this week, it's marking 35 years with a special event.
Since 1990, the Center has provided advanced cancer care, research, and treatment to patients here in the Coachella Valley.
This Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., the Center will host its anniversary celebration, which is open to patients here in the Coachella Valley.
The Center says cancer treatment has come a long way over the past 35 years.
Executive Director Teresa Whipple says, "We're diagnosing people earlier, so that means better outcomes. We have far more survivors than cancer patients back then 35 years ago."
News Channel 3's Peter Daut spoke with Whipple to get more on the advances that have been made at the Center over the years.
The Center established the valley's first surgical oncology program.
