Mizell Center hosting free informational program on colorectal cancer
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KESQ) - Valley doctors are trying to bring awareness of colorectal and anal cancers.
Colorectal and anal cancers remain the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S., and rates are rising among adults under 50.
The Mizell Center in Palm Springs will host a free community program on Wednesday, December 17, focused on these types of cancers and what people need to know.
The program will include a panel discussion with several health experts, and aims to empower people with knowledge that can save lives through early detection.
Mizell Center CEO Rob Wheeler says, "We feel that it's our role, and important to bring these conversations out for the public and the people we serve. And even when those conversations are challenging or a bit embarrassing, that we create a space where we can actually have that dialogue."
News Channel 3's Peter Daut spoke with Wheeler about this discussion is important.
While colorectal cancer is often perceived at a men's health issue, it affects women at equal rates.
