THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) - A motorist possibly speeding along a roadway in Thousand Palms today lost control of his SUV, causing it to overturn and roll, leaving the driver injured.

The crash was reported at 1:55 p.m. Thursday on westbound Varner Road, between Monterey Avenue and Boca Chica Trail, paralleling Interstate 10, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The agency said witnesses observed the SUV traveling at high speed and possibly weaving before the vehicle traveled off the westbound shoulder and flipped over in desert scrub brush, rolling at least once before coming to rest on its wheels.

No other vehicles were involved.

Riverside County Fire Department paramedics reached the location in minutes and found the motorist, whose identity wasn't disclosed, with minor injuries, according to the CHP.

The victim was apparently the only occupant of the SUV. He was taken to a Coachella Valley hospital for treatment.

A tow truck with 60 feet of cable was summoned to retrieve the damaged SUV.

No roadway closures were necessary.
