Moderate quake rattles desert area Monday; aftershocks continue Tuesday morning

A small earthquake with a magnitude of 3.6 has struck about 4.3 miles northeast of Indio HIlls and 11.2 miles north of Indio, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The shaker is likely an aftershock to yesterday's 4.9 temblor in the same general area. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, there have been 16 small earthquakes in the area starting with the initial 4.9 quake.

There are no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

A moderate earthquake rattled the Coachella Valley Monday evening and was centered near the Indio Hills area just before 6:00 PM, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

We have reports that the 4.9 Magnitude earthquake was felt in Desert Hot Springs, Palm Springs, and most other Coachella Valley communities.

We reached out to most of the city's emergency services, and all have reported no major damage or injuries.

The Palm Springs Fire Department said:

"All Palm Springs fire stations are fully operational. Our initial citywide survey shows no reported damage."

There have been at least 4 measurable aftershocks, with the largest recorded at 3.4.

News Channel 3 spoke with several people in Downtown Palm Springs.

Some were shocked by the quake, while others shrugged it off.
