After Jackie: Understanding Shadow’s behavior and the bald eagle life cycle

BIG BEAR, Calif. (KESQ) — Just days after the death of beloved Big Bear bald eagle Jackie, another female eagle known as KD1 or Katie has been spotted spending time near her longtime mate, Shadow.

The sightings are raising questions among eagle watchers about how bald eagles respond after losing a mate, how quickly they may form new bonds and what Shadow’s behavior can teach us about the natural life cycle of wildlife.
