COACHELLA VALLEY, Calif. (KESQ) - As students return to classrooms, health experts are reminding families that COVID-19 and other illnesses are still circulating.

COVID can cause symptoms similar to the flu and other respiratory illnesses, including fever, cough, sore throat, congestion and fatigue.

Experts recommend washing hands regularly, covering coughs and staying home when sick to help prevent illnesses from spreading at school and at home.

Parents should also monitor their child's symptoms and contact a health care provider if they have concerns or if symptoms worsen.

Some antiviral treatments work best when started early, so experts say it's important to talk with a provider about treatment options if symptoms begin.
