Operation SafeHouse responds to News Channel 3 report, explains continued Valley services

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) - A week after News Channel 3 reported the Operation SafeHouse of the Desert emergency shelter in Thousand Palms is no longer being used, the organization is responding and explaining how it says young people in the Coachella Valley are still being served.

Operation SafeHouse released a statement following our September 8 report, raising concerns about the reporting and saying it did not fully reflect the services the organization continues to provide across the Valley.

News Channel 3 sat down with Executive Director Kendra Tankersley Davis to address those concerns and get a clearer picture of what remains available.

We also got a look inside the Safehouse of the Desert facility, along with Harrison House, the organization’s transitional living program in Thousand Palms, which remains open and operational.

The organization says its emergency shelter program also remains operational, with young people in the Coachella Valley able to be connected with its Riverside shelter when emergency housing is needed.

Tonight, we are getting answers on how that process works, what services remain here in the Valley and what Operation SafeHouse says families need to know about getting help.
