Driver dies after vehicle catches fire in Indian Wells crash

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. (KESQ) —UPDATE 9/25 10:37 AM- A driver was killed early Friday morning after a single-vehicle traffic collision in Indian Wells, authorities said.

At approximately 2:05 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, deputies from the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station responded to a reported collision at the intersection of Highway 111 and Desert Horizons Drive.

When deputies arrived, they found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Palm Desert Station’s Traffic Reconstruction Team responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation.

As deputies investigated the crash, State Highway 111 was temporarily closed between Cook Street and Eldorado Drive. The roadway has since reopened to traffic.

Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased driver. The name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and authorities said no additional details will be released at this time.
