MGN

CHIRIACO SUMMIT, Calif. (KESQ)- A 35-year-old man was killed early Saturday morning in a head-on collision involving a wrong-way driver on I-10 near Chiriaco Summit.

The crash occurred October 31, at approximately 2:15 a.m., west of Box Canyon Road. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a Chevrolet Colorado driven by Jose Trevino, 35, of Austin, Texas, was traveling eastbound when it collided head-on with a westbound Ford F-150 Raptor traveling in the wrong direction in the eastbound lanes.

Trevino died at the scene. The 41-year-old Ford driver from Yucaipa sustained major injuries and was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center.

CHP suspects alcohol may have been a factor. The crash remains under investigation by the CHP Indio Area office.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer M. Rojas at (760) 772-5300.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Office-Coroner's Bureau confirmed Trevino's identity and reported that his next of kin had been notified.
