Clarification: Seattle-2020 Protests story

SEATTLE (AP) — In a story published January 24, 2024, The Associated Press reported that during protests following the killing of George Floyd in 2020, then-Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan and Police Chief Carmen Best promised that police would stop using certain crowd-control measures, and that the City Council subsequently voted to bar the police from doing so. The story should have made clear that the promise concerned only the use of tear gas, that it included an exception for life-threatening situations, and that the City Council’s decision was blocked by a federal judge.
