A Mecca man was taken into custody Tuesday accused of hitting another man over the head with brass knuckles.

The Riverside County Sheriffs Department says the assault with a deadly weapon occurred April 3 along the 91000 block of 5th Street, Mecca.

Detectives initially thought the suspect, Irving Valenzuela, 29, of Mecca struck the victim on top of the head with a gun then ran away. The injured man suffered a cut to the top of his head.

Deputies later served a search warrant in the area of 91000 Block of 5th Street, Mecca on Tuesday March 14. Valenzuela was taken into custody there without further incident. It was later determined brass knuckles were allegedly used.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department encourages anyone with additional information regarding this incident to contact SCVCSD Corporal Rubio at Thermal Sheriff's Station at (760) 863-8990.
