Teen killed in shooting in Coachella Sunday night

A teenage boy was killed in a shooting Sunday night in the city of Coachella.

The shooting was reported at around 9:07 p.m. in the 53500 block of Cesar Chavez Street.

Deputies arrived at the scene and found a 16-year-old boy with gunshot wounds. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies secured the area as a crime scene and station investigators responded to begin the investigation. The Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation.

The investigation remains ongoing. Officials with the Sheriff's Dept. said no further information will be released at this time.
