Two men believed to be from Cathedral City wanted for setting stolen boat on fire in Corona

Investigators are asking for the public's help identifying men possibly from the Cathedral City area wanted in connection with setting a stolen boat on fire in Corona.

The fire was set on Dec. 11 at the Von’s supermarket at 369 Magnolia Ave in the city of Corona.

According to the Corona Fire Dept., witnesses reported seeing a black, Chevrolet pickup truck towing a boat minutes before the fire.

The black Chevrolet and boat were parked at the Von’s gas station. Video footage from the Von’s gas station captured two Hispanic male suspects as they entered the gas station separately.

One suspect purchased a one-gallon water jug and the other paid for gas, authorities said.

Authorities added that after they filled the water jug with gas, the boat was towed behind Von’s and set on fire.

The black Chevrolet was last seen, driving southbound on Magnolia Ave., towards the 15 Freeway.

Investigators later learned that the boat had been stolen from a Corona residence, approximately 2 miles west of where it was set on fire.

Investigators said the black Chevy was registered to a Cathedral City address.

The victims and registered owners of the $40,000 boat told investigators that they didn’t know why someone would steal their family’s boat. The family desires prosecution.

On Thursday, the city of Corona shared pictures of the two suspects, but to date, the identity of the suspects is not known.

Corona Fire Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance with identifying either suspect. Anyone with information about the incident or anyone who can identify either suspect is asked to contact Fire Investigator – Xente Baker at (951)-736-2220 or via email @
