COACHELLA VALLEY, Calif. (KESQ) - Most people can tell you that the seven casinos in the Coachella Valley are owned by different Native American tribes.

The history and force of local tribes helped shape the Coachella Valley, including its current economic power.

As morning anchor Angela Chen reports, the tribe's recent prosperity is fairly new, built on pain suffered over the past 100 years. 

Coming up next week, part two of Against All Odds, we'll introduce you to one woman who became the last of her people and her mission to not let her people be lost.
