COACHELLA VALLEY, Calif. (KESQ) - Local politicians are sharing their thoughts following a terrorist shooting in Australia this morning targeting the Jewish community. At 5 a.m. at Bondi Beach in Sydney, shooters opened fire on a crowd of hundreds attending an event to kick off Hanukkah. At least 11 were killed and 29 injured, according to police.

Congressman Ken Calvert, who represents parts of Riverside County, shared this statement following the attack:

"The deadly attack on Jews celebrating Hanukkah in Australia is another tragic incident in the horrific rise in antisemitic violence around the world. Jews have a right to join together and practice their faith - period. We must do more to protect that right. We must speak out against antisemitism wherever it exists. I am praying for all of those killed, injured, and affected by this attack, and for an end to this evil hatred and violence," Calvert wrote on X this morning.
