RSO investigating deputy’s accidental discharge of gun into unincorporated DHS home
The Riverside County Sheriff's Department is investigating an incident earlier this week in which a deputy accidentally discharged his service weapon, striking a Desert Hot Springs residence, according to RSO Lieutenant Chris Durham.
On November 19 at 12:48 a.m., deputies from the Palm Desert Sheriff's Station responded to a domestic disturbance and vandalism call at a residence on the 18300 block of Sagebrush Trail in unincorporated Desert Hot Springs.
While one of the deputies was approaching the residence, they inadvertently discharged their service weapon, and the round struck an interior wall of the residence. No one was injured in the incident.
The deputies notified their supervisor of the incident, who responded and spoke with the home's residents, who confirmed that no one was injured.
The investigation is active. Once it is completed, the Sheriff's Administration will decide if the deputy violated department policies and procedures.
