Negative Yelp review prompts business owner to threaten man with a gun

Police say a negative Yelp review prompted a man to threaten someone with a gun near Indio High School Thursday afternoon.

"The suspect threatened the victim due to the victim writing a negative Yelp Review of the suspect’s business," reads an IPD news release.

The Indio Police Department identified the suspect as 26-year-old Roy Becerra. Jail records show Beccera was arrested on 81720 Avenue 46 Thursday at approximately 12:44 p.m.

According to IPD, detectives were called in to investigate criminal threats and the brandishing of a firearm. During the course of the investigation, detectives learned Becerra was unable to own or possess a firearm.

Police say when detectives made contact with Becerra, he was in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun. Police also found a loaded .357 handgun during a search of his residence.

Becerra has been booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on multiple felony charges, including, violation of probation. He remains in custody in lieu of $50,000 bail.
