‘Unity March’ to be held in Desert Hot Springs to honor Martin Luther King Jr.

Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The national holiday honoring the civil rights activist that was officially declared in 1983 by President Ronald Reagan. 

Coachella Valley residents will gather in Desert Hot Springs for a march at 2 p.m. starting the Desert Hot Springs police department. The march will end at the First Community Baptist Church. 

According to organizers, participants will march “in an effort to show endeavor to stand united as a community.” Following the march, at 3:30 p.m. the church will host a celebration called “Remembering the Dream in Love.” There, the event will announce the winners of an essay contest that was open to students from all valley cities.

Special guests will include Desert Hot Springs Mayor Pro Tem Jan Pye and Pastor Lloyd N. Ellie.

Music will be provided by the First Community Baptist Church DHS Praise Team and youth, as well as the Green Sisters of Glen Valley First Baptist Church. 

The church is located at 66272 First Street in Desert Hot Springs.
