Desert Hot Springs looks to fill 15 seats across 3 key city commissions

Three key Desert Hot Springs commissions are entirely vacant, and the city is looking to fill their seats in the coming weeks.

In a Facebook post Monday, Desert Hot Springs announced that all five seats are open on the Planning Commission, the Public Safety Commission, and the Community and Cultural Affairs Commission.

In order to be eligible for one of the seats, applicants must be a resident and registered voter in the city of Desert Hot Springs. The deadline to submit for a seat is Wednesday, January 29 at 6 p.m. The Desert Hot Springs City Council will consider the appointments during the February 4 regular session.

The most recent members of the Planning Commission:

  • Larry Buchanan, Chair - appointed by Joe McKee
  • James Nindel, Vice-Chair - appointed by Scott Matas
  • Agustin Aragon, Commissioner - appointed by Robert Griffith
  • Richard Duffle, Commissioner - appointed by Jane Pye
  • Dawn Griffiths, Commissioner - appointed by Russell Betts

The most recent members of the Public Safety Commission:

  • Donna Lozano, Chair - appointed by Scott Matas
  • Ted Mayrhofen, Vice-Chair - appointed by Russell Betts
  • Lee Eastman, Commissioner - appointed by Yvonne Parks
  • Florence Martin, Commissioner - appointed by Anayeli Zavala
  • Walt Meyer, Commissioner - appointed by Joe McKee

The most recent members of the Community and Cultural Affairs Commission:

  • Michael Picardi*, Chair - appointed by Scott Matas
  • Barbara Eastman, Vice-Chair - appointed by Yvonne Parks
  • Dawn Diaz, Commissioner - appointed by Anayeli Zavala
  • Maine Turner, Commissioner - appointed by Joe McKee
  • Donna Wardean, Commissioner - appointed by Russell Betts

*Picardi's name is crossed out on the DHS Community and Cultural Affairs Commission web page

All the above-listed commission members had terms expiring in January 2020. Each commission member will receive a stipend per monthly meeting.
