Airport access, Uber, Lyft affected by President Trump’s visit
Aiport travelers, as well as Uber and Lyft drivers heading to Palm Springs International Airport will have to navigate a little bit differently on Wednesday.
Wednesday morning, the Palm Springs Police Department put out a notice on a closure that would affect the main thoroughfare into the airport, Kirk Douglas Way.
"Kirk Douglas Way between S. El Cielo Road and E. Ramon Road will be closed until further notice to vehicles and pedestrians. For airport business, please use the main entrance located at E. Tahquitz Canyon Drive and S. El Cielo Road," read the release, issued at 7:07 a.m.
On Tuesday, the Uber and Lyft drivers found out that the "waiting lot" at the airport would be closed. Drivers usually idle there until the app notifies them of a passenger at the terminal.
The news could have been better communicated, according to one driver.
"It's important we spend a lot of our day here waiting for planes to come in to get people to give them a ride to where they need to go..." said David Paquette, a local Uber and Lyft driver. "We're a little in the dark as to where we're supposed to be to wait for customers that are coming in on flights."
According to an airport official, signage will be added around PSP tomorrow making it clear where the drivers can gather.
