Motorcyclist killed in Highway 62 collision near Desert Hot Springs

According to Cal Fire one person is dead after a Saturday afternoon collision on Highway 62. The wreck was reported just before 12:30 p.m. on the highway's northbound lanes at Pierson Boulevard.

Cal Fire says a driver in a passenger vehicle and a motorcyclist were involved. According to officers on scene, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene after being wedged under the vehicle.

The Desert Hot Springs Police Department said in a statement the vehicle's driver, a 37-year-old female, was traveling westbound on Pierson Boulevard. According to the evidence collected at the scene, she failed to yield for the right of way of the motorcycle, ridden by a Perris man, 27. He was unable to stop and collided into the SUV as he continued along Highway 62.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was hospitalized with major injuries and transported to a local hospital. There were no other passengers involved.

Police confirmed the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.
