‘Haus of Pizza’ hosting fundraiser in support of Ukraine
Haus of Pizza, Ukrainian and Italian restaurant is hosting a fundraiser to help those impacted directly by the war.
We spoke to the restaurant's owner and the event organizer about how they're supporting the Ukrainian people.
Iryna Pyle owns Haus of Pizza and happens to be Ukrainian herself.
"Simple civilians like you and I, they need money, they need our help," says Pyle.
She's been supporting Ukrainians with the help of her restaurant, and is now teaming up with the International Rotary Club.
Bill Smyth recently traveled to Ukraine with a rotary group and spent ten days in Kharkiv.
He says his first hand experience gave him a better idea of what Ukrainians need at this time.
"We're also buying cooking stuff. When I was there, for example, we barely had four hours a day of electricity. So we had to take sleeping bags and we had to take a flashlights," says Smyth.
Attendees at Wednesday's fundraiser will get more information on Ukrainian refugee centers and a taste of authentic Ukrainian food.
"I will be making Ukrainian dinners like borsch like some meat, pierogi, cutlets or meatloaves, and stuffed cabbage," says Pyle.
The event will also help raise funds to provide generators, food assistance, and medical care to those displaced by the war.
"We just hope that you'll support them through some type of a charity, and it could be the Rotary Club. Could be anything but we hope you support Ukraine," says Smyth.
