DSUSD looking for approval of Measure A for modernized facilities
Desert Sands Unified School District looks toward Measure A approval to modernize schools.
The $675 million bond measure currently enjoys 57.6% approval from voters. To pass, it requires a minimum 55% voter approval.
DSUSD has conducted a 5-year facility master plan outlining the district's needs, which Measure A could finance.
"If Measure A passes, we will initiate a 3 to 6-month administrative process," said Jordan Aquino, DSUSD's Assistant Superintendent of Business Services. "We will review our master plan, prioritize projects based on facility needs, strategize to maximize state revenues, and collaborate with the board of trustees. This process is intensive, ensuring all stakeholder input is considered."
The bond measure aims to create safer, more modern learning environments.
Aquino stated the funding could support new HVAC systems, technology, learning programs, and classroom spaces.
According to the school district, Measure A could also provide funding to remove asbestos and lead pipes where found, and repair deteriorating roofs, potentially enhancing student safety and campus security systems.
"We're committed to providing a comfortable environment for students," said Aquino.
Vote counting continues, and results are not final. The next vote count update will be released tonight.
