Suspect in Cathedral City officer-involved shooting dies

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. (KESQ) - A man suspected of stabbing a person at a home in Cathedral City before being shot by an officer died, police announced Tuesday.

The incident was reported after 7 p.m. Monday on Via Minorca in the Date Palm Country Club Date Palm Country Club.

Investigators said a 55-year-old man forced his way into a home and stabbed one of the occupants. The victim suffered an injury to his torso.

Officers located the suspect, who was armed with a weapon, standing outside the residence, Enos said. An officer ultimately opened fire, striking the suspect. It was unclear exactly what prompted the gunfire.

Both the victim and the suspect were taken to a local hospital and police say no officers were injured. The victim was released from the hospital on Tuesday.

The officer involved, a 13-year veteran, has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation. The department's Professional Standards Bureau will conduct an internal investigation to determine if any policy violations occurred.

No officers were injured during the shooting.
