Longtime Lakers public address announcer Lawrence Tanter dies at 76

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (KESQ) - Longtime Lakers public address announcer Lawrence Tanter has died at age 76, the team announced Wednesday night.

Tanter had been the Lakers' public address announcer through the 2025- 26 season. The team announced in June that Tanter retired from the position but would remain with the organization as its special adviser for game presentation.

"We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of legendary Lakers public address announcer Lawrence Tanter,'' the team announced Wednesday night. "For 43 years, LT's voice served as the soundtrack to Lakers games at the arena. He will be remembered as a cherished member of the Lakers family.''   

Tanter's tenure with the Lakers spanned 10 NBA championships, 16 Western Conference titles and some of the most successful eras in franchise history.

During the NBA's pandemic-era bubble in 2020, Tanter recorded game introductions from his home studio to help recreate the familiar atmosphere of Lakers basketball.

Tanter was also a disc jockey for Los Angeles-area radio stations KJLH, KTWV and KKJZ.
