Firebirds fall to Eagles 3-1 for second straight loss of the season

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) The Coachella Valley Firebirds fell to the Colorado Eagles 3-1 on Saturday at Acrisure Arena.

Scoreless in the first period, the Eagles scored two unanswered goals to start the middle frame. Danil Gushchin found the back of the net and made it 1-0. A little over a minute later, Jason Polin tallied his first goal of the season to make it 2-0.

With less than nine minutes to go, Gustav Olofsson lit the lamp to cut the deficit down to one and score the first goal of the Firebirds' fourth season as a franchise.

In the final stretch of the third period, Gushchin scored his second goal of the game to extend their lead to 3-1.

Olofsson, the lone goal scorer, earned the third star of the game.

Nikke Kokko started in net for CV and saved 23 shots on goal.

The Firebirds fall to 0-2-0-0 on the season. Coachella Valley will head on the road and play the Bakersfield Condors on Sunday, October 19th. Puck drop is at 4 PM.
