Firebirds stay hot, sweep rival Wranglers with 5-2 win at home

The first-place Firebirds are flying high right now.

Coachella Valley took care of Calgary in back-to-back nights, capped off by a 5-2 win on Thursday at Acrisure Arena.

Andrew Poturalski netted two goals while Kole Lind had three assists as the Firebirds extended their point streak to seven straight games.

After a scoreless first period, the Firebirds scored four goals in the second period. Max McCormick scored first, followed by a pair of goals from Andrew Poturalski, and then John Hayden scored to give the Firebirds a 4-0 lead.

Ales Stezka turned away 28 of 30 shots in the win, which moves Coachella Valley to 25-16-4-1 on the season.

Next up, a battle of birds and tussle between the top two teams in the division standings, Coachella Valley (57 points) will host the second-place Tucson Roadrunners (54 points) on Saturday, February 2nd at 6pm.
