Student-Athlete of the Week – Brynn Campbell

PALM DESERT, Calif. (KESQ) – Our latest student-athlete of the week is senior middle blocker Brynn Campbell from Xavier Prep volleyball.

“She's always one of the first people at practice setting up blocks or for take down," Saints volleyball head coach Baylie Dashner said. "She does all the little things for our program.”

Campbell is a strong athlete who has been on the Saints varsity team since her freshman year. Each season, she continues to prove how skilled she is on the court.

“I’ve been playing volleyball for around seven years now," Campbell said. "Varsity volleyball at XP has really shown me how to be a good teammate.”

“Brynn is such a strong asset on our team. She's a huge middle blocker," Dashner said. "When we get her in system, she can find the floor no matter what. Whether it's tipping or swinging.”

For Campbell, the community volleyball fosters is what's kept her playing. She's even on the beach volleyball team in the spring, nearly getting the chance to play the sport she loves year round.

Not only has she made a family on the court and in the sand, but she's also bonded with her own sister through the sport.

“Xavier [Prep] volleyball is definitely like a giant family for me," Campbell said. "I did play with my sister for two years on the varsity program. She graduated two years ago. It was amazing. It was nice to have that safe space on the court at times.”

Campbell said she learned a lot from being on the same team as her big sister. Now that her sister, Ava Campbell, has graduated from Xavier Prep, Brynn said she's taken on that same leadership role.

"It's definitely nice having my big sister as, like, a role model for me, because I can take away her leadership skills and use them for those younger girls beneath me,” Campbell said.

“She's really watched all the older girls kind of show her how to do it, and I think she's really taken it on and by her senior year," Dashner said. "And, she just really does all the little things that we want and ask for it.”

Campbell is also a leader when it comes to the classroom, with a 3.7 GPA. While she's still deciding where to go to college, she said she knows what she plans to do next.

“I do plan on playing college volleyball," Campbell said. "I'm thinking of going into animal sciences or biochem. I'll probably use those majors to go into veterinary school.”
