Student Athlete of the Week – Aiden Shannon
YUCCA VALLEY, Calif. (KESQ) --Â Yucca Valley senior quarterback Aiden Shannon is this week's student athlete of the week.
Switching from wide receiver to quarterback is a very rare position change and very difficult to do, but that wasn't a problem for Aiden Shannon, who was ready to lead the team once he stepped onto the field this year.
"As soon as I was told I was going to be quarterback, I was just like, OK, this is my job," Shannon said. "I got to step up and make sure I do my best. I gotta make sure that they're behind my back the whole time. I've got to be a leader and a captain to have my team behind me and be there in front of them."
Despite this being the first year as the starting quarterback and captain, head coach Jeremy Johnson always knew that Shannon had all the tools to be one of the greats for the Trojans.
"He's been through the system since he was a freshman," Trojans head coach Jeremy Johnson said. "He really knows our program, he knows the system, and he's been a good leader for us all year."
No matter what is thrown his way, Shannon tries his best to keep every play alive, a mindset he's kept to have an over 1900-yard and 23-touchdown season.
"I don't want ever to have a drive or a play that I don't do my 100," Shannon said. "I want to do my best always and always give my 100 to the team, to the field, and have fun."
Shannon not only leads the Trojans to wins but also excels in the classroom, maintaining a 3.8 GPA while serving in ASB, a true example of the standard for the football team at Yucca Valley High.
"He represents us at the ASB meetings, which, you know, is nice to have in the football program," Trojans head coach Jeremy Johnson said. "He's just an all-around great athlete and great kid, and I've enjoyed coaching him this year."
