Riverside County Sheriff deputy dies from coronavirus

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department announced on social media this morning that the first Riverside County Sheriff deputy who has died from the complications from the coronavirus.

The Sheriff Department released this statement: "We are saddened to announce the passing of one of our own RSO family members, Deputy Terrell Young. Terrell Young served this department for 15 yrs & is the 1st member to succumb to the COVID-19 virus. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones during this difficult time."

The Riverside Sheriff's Association released this statement on the passing of Deputy Young:

'It is with an extremely heavy heart that we share with all of you, the tragic news of the loss of life of one of our deputies, Deputy Terrell Young. Deputy Young passed away this morning, Thursday, April 2, 2020, due to complications from COVID-19. Deputy Young began his career with our Department in December, 2005. Deputy Young worked assignments at the Larry Smith Correctional Facility, Perris Station, Court Services, Southwest Station, and the Cois Byrd Detention Center. Deputy Young is survived by his wife and four children. I have been in-touch with his family and they are requesting privacy at this time. Our Association family, and law enforcement family as a whole, mourns with all of you, and our deepest sympathy and prayers extend to the family of Deputy Terrell Young. Please stay safe and take care of one another during these unprecedented, extremely difficult times.'

Condolence messages to the department continue to be posted in response to the announcement from the Riverside Sheriff's Department.

Indio Police Department posted on their Instagram page saying, "Our sincere condolences go out to our colleagues at the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. We will keep the family, friends and coworkers of Deputy Terrell Young in our thoughts and prayers."

Palm Springs Police Department also posted a tweet, saying, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Deputy Terrell Young who succumb from complications of COVID-19. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and our partners @riversidecountysheriff ."
