Indian Canyon Dr. and Gene Autry Trail both open again after closures due to sand and low visibility

Indian Canyon Drive and Gene Autry Trail were reopened to traffic in and out of Palm Springs through the Whitewater wash Monday morning, Gene Autry Trail at 7:30 a.m. and Indian Canyon Drive at 8:55 a.m., according to the Palm Springs Police Department.

Both major traffic arteries were closed Sunday through the Whitewater wash due to blowing sand and low visibility, according to police.

Detours included Highway 111, Vista Chino Road, Ramon Road, and Dinah Shore Drive.

A planned closure for Indian Canyon Monday night was set to begin at 9 p.m. and continue until 5 p.m. Tuesday morning at which time the roadway will be back to two travel lanes in either direction again.

The roadway has been closed or reopened with one travel lane in either direction following Tropical Storm Hilary in August.
