Ironman 70.3 Indian Wells-La Quinta to boost economy in Coachella Valley

The Ironman Indian Wells returns to the desert on Sunday. The Coachella Valley is expecting economic benefits from the weekend. 

The influx of tourism is projected to bring $10 million-$12 million to the area, according to Ironman officials.

This year’s race has the highest number of registered participants since its inception in 2018. Over 3,200 triathletes have already signed up for the half Ironman—that’s a 30% increase from last year. 

Ironman officials anticipate three to four spectators per athlete, further contributing to the economic impact in the desert.

Businesses like hotels and restaurants will benefit most from the Ironman race.

Michael Murray, General Manager of Hotel Paseo in Palm Desert, says “this is certainly one of the top weekends as far as travel in demand.” He anticipates the hotel to be fully booked during the weekend of the race. 

The 70.3-mile triathlon course will weave through the cities of La Quinta and Indian Wells.
