Insider Blog: The 29th anniversary of Joshua Tree National Park
Twentynine years ago today, President Bill Clinton signed into law the California Desert Protection Act, establishing Joshua Tree National Park as we know it today. Prior to 1994, the land had been designated as a national monument all the way back in 1936.
Former United States Senator Barabra Boxer explained to me that prior to her time in the Senate, the previous attempts at designating the land as a National Park were unsuccessful. She, along with the late Senator Dianne Feinstein pushed for the creation of the park.
Former Senator Boxer expressed how much of an impact the beauty of the land had on her and that she believes that everyone should have the right to have this land preserved so it can be shared with generations to come.
