Hot and humid through the weekend

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) — The Extreme Heat Warning issued by the National Weather Service remains in effect until Sunday night, with a high today near 114 degrees, five degrees above the seasonal average.

EXTREME HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL SUNDAY AT 8 P.M.

While we have seen warmer temperatures in the past few weeks, the persistent monsoonal flow remains, making conditions feel hotter than the actual temperature. If you have outdoor plans today, prepare for uncomfortable conditions.

The ridge of high pressure centered over the Intermountain West continues to dominate the Desert Southwest. In the Coachella Valley, we are currently seeing the potential for extreme heat stress.

Relief arrives as soon as Wednesday. Conditions should begin to dry out, with cooler temperatures around the corner and a chance of below-seasonal-average highs late next week.
