Hot today with relief around the corner

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) — Today’s high of 113 degrees will be slightly lower than yesterday’s, marking the beginning of a cooling trend expected through this week.

The high-pressure system that has dominated our weather pattern in recent weeks will weaken in response to a series of shortwave troughs moving inland and northward.

Now, this setup, alongside monsoonal moisture flowing from the high-pressure system, could provide the ingredients needed for showers. The highest chance will be Monday and Tuesday in the mountain regions.

The Extreme Heat Warning issued by the National Weather Service expires tonight at 8 p.m.

Down the line, a slight cooling trend will bring us below average temperatures for this time of year by the end of next week, with moisture expected to dry out soon after.
