Milder conditions on tap this week

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) – The extreme heat is gone and the relief is starting! We're tracking milder conditions this week.

The humidity is somewhat fading as we look ahead towards tomorrow. Conditions this weekend have been drier than what we saw Friday; looking at our FutureTrack hour-by-hour dew points, we're set to see a return to the 40s for Monday.

The heat continues to dial itself back on Monday, dropping a couple of degrees compared to Sunday.

Average highs this time of year run around 106°F, so we'll be seeing the start of some below average temperatures. That's a nice change!

We're keeping a close eye on some tropical systems to our south, like Hurricane Karina, which strengthened today. Rain impacts look unlikely right now, but we should be seeing increasing clouds by midweek due to this system.

Highs stay below average through the next seven days and could cool further depending on the amount of cloud cover we pick up from Karina by Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures have bumped down into Labor Day weekend; there's a lot of uncertainty surrounding cooler temperatures & widespread showers for Southern California.
