Cooler and drier now; tropical moisture possible for the weekend

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) – Our weather continues its very pleasant run this Wednesday! We look to hold onto these cooler & drier conditions through Friday before our humidity could increase.

For now, this is our setup: a trough in the Pacific Northwest is continuing to slide closer to us, helping keep our temperatures in check. Below-normal temperatures are commonplace in the West.

Highs for Thursday look similar to today: near or just below the century mark, representing temperatures well below seasonal (106°F).

Our dew points are comfortable, too. We've stayed between the 20-30°F mark throughout the day; drier weather should hold strong through Friday before we begin to see the impacts of Tropical Storm Marie.

Marie is just under hurricane strength as of Wednesday afternoon. Models continue to show its most likely track will keep the core of the storm well away from the California coast. Tropical moisture is still likely to be drawn in, with some thunderstorms and/or outer band precipitation possible for Labor Day weekend. We'll continue to monitor as models are refined.

We're staying well below average throughout the next seven days. Moisture from the tropical system is expected to push highs down even further, potentially into the mid 90s by Sunday. Do note: it's going to feel stickier, too!
