Tamarisk trees catch fire near I-10 Date Palm exit in Cathedral City

KESQ

A cluster of tamarisk trees burned along Interstate 10 in Cathedral City Friday afternoon.

The non-injury blaze was reported about 1:50 p.m. along the eastbound I-10, west of Date Palm Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Fire crews from Cathedral City and the Riverside County Fire Department joined efforts for the firefight.

Battalion Chief Robert Willams of the Cathedral City Fire Department told News Channel 3 at around 5 p.m. that the blaze was considered fully contained, although the duff beneath the trees were still smoldering at around 5 p.m.

Crews will stay around until around 9 p.m. to prevent any more spark ups, Williams said.
