Lightning sparks second palm tree fire in days

Thursday morning’s lightning storm sparked a palm tree fire in Rancho Mirage.

Around 1:00 a.m., a bolt of lightning struck a group of three palm trees near Cody Court and Palm View, just off Tamarisk Country Club.

Mark Tipton sent us video of the fire. The lightning started a fire that reportedly damaged several cars and destroyed at least one mini-van. There are no reports of any injuries or any damages to homes. Fire crews arrived on scene and quickly extinguished the blaze.

This palm tree fire comes just two days after lightning sparked another palm tree fire as well.
