Local businesses spread word for Hunger Action Month

Hunger Action Month is devoted to taking action against America’s hunger crisis. Locally, valley businesses are promoting initiatives within their offices and the community.

Desert Wraps in Palm Desert is a marketing and advertising firm with specialization in vehicle designs and interior branding. They’re even designing a new look for the FIND Food Bank. For Hunger Action Month, they’re encouraging customers to donated food to FIND and sporting orange ribbons, the color for hunger awareness.

“I think knowing that FIND Food Bank is the only food bank in the desert, and they serve over 90,000 people a month is incredible,” said Shelly Sheppard, of Desert Wraps. “There’s just a ton of need for it, and we believe in the cause.”

Just around the corner, Renova Energy Corporation is rocking orange, too. They’re collecting food in their lobby and have agreed to have a volunteer day this month, packing food at FIND.

“We have a tendency to forget about local issues,” said Vincent Battaglia, founder & CEO of Renova. “Instead of watching television and empathizing with people of areas, we can tangibly do something.”

Margo Schwab, owner of Infinity Hair Design in La Quinta, was eager to give back to FIND through her business. She knows hunger can impact anyone.

“I was raising four kids with a spouse, however funds were tight, even with both employed, I was concerned at times where I was going to find the money to feed my kids, even with two incomes, so it hits home,” said Schwab.

Infinity Hair Design will be donating 20 percent of all beauty product sales for the month of September to show their support.

“With everything going on right now with the floods and the fires and the hurricanes, don’t forget to look close to home because there really is a need,” said Schwab.

If you or a business you know is interested in participating in Hunger Action Month, it’s not too late.
