8 arrested during east valley gang sweep

8 suspects were taken into custody during a gang sweep in the east valley Thursday morning.

It happened at 5:00 a.m. as the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force supported by teams of local law enforcement officers, began serving a series of gang-association search warrants in the city of Coachella and surrounding areas.

The search warrants were served on the residences of suspected gang members and associates.

The warrants stem from gang violence and shootings that have occurred within Coachella and surrounding areas.

This operation also included the service of a gang injunction on documented gang members and associates as well as probation compliance checks within the city of Coachella. The search warrants resulted in the confiscation of four firearms.

8 suspects were arrested and booked into the Indio Riverside County Jail for the following charges:

36-year-old, Coachella resident, Robert Cruz – possession of drug paraphernalia and probation violation 46-year-old, Coachella resident, Francisco Lopez – drug paraphernalia 23-year-old, Indio resident, Roman Martinez – possession of a loaded firearm 33-year-old, Coachella resident, Robert Moreno – public intoxication 30-year-old, Coachella resident, Cipriano Reyes – possession of drug paraphernalia 55-year-old, Coachella resident, Elena Torres – narcotics warrant 26-year-old, Coachella resident – Fabian Torrez – burglary warrantprobation violation 22-year-old, Coachella resident, Joseph Verdusco – parole warrant

The search warrants were served at the following locations:

88-300 block of Airport Boulevard, Thermal 63-900 block of Wilma Jean Way, Thermal 53-000 block of Calle Camacho, Coachella 52-800 block of Calle Techa, Coachella 85-200 block of Araby Avenue, Coachella 84-500 block of Avenue 52, Coachella 53-000 block of Calle Avila, Coachella 1300 block of 2nd Street, Coachella 50-000 block of Balboa Street, Coachella 86-200 block of Pinot Noir, Coachella 84-600 block of Damascus Avenue, Coachella 42-100 block of Idaho Street, Palm Desert 43-600 block of King Street, Indio 81-700 block of Avenue 46, Indio

Two women were cited but eventually released.
