Small brush fire temporarily shuts down railroad tracks in Mecca

Cal Fire firefighters contained a brush fire burning in Mecca this evening. The fire broke out just after 5:30 p.m. near Avenue 70 and Garfield Street.

Cal Fire officials said the first arriving engine reported a 20 foot by 100 foot spot of medium brush on fire near some railroad tracks. Union Pacific Railroad temporarily stopped operating those tracks while firefighters worked to contain the fire.

Fire crews managed to put the fire out within a half an hour. The brush fire burned a quarter of an acre.
