Festival-goers celebrate Mexican Independence Day
People celebrated Mexico’s 207th Independence day at Rancho Las Flores park in Coachella Sunday. El Grito has been celebrated since Sept. of 1810.
“It’s just a tradition and if you’re a Mexican it hits you more, you know? i just love it,” said Arcardia Cacrex.
El Grito is known to have triggered the Mexican war of independence.
“Adults can teach their kids that it’s important to remember their heritage and ancestors. Our culture is a very rich culture and family gatherings in our culture are important so this is something that we brought to the United States and we keep generation after generation”, said Gina Faarras
“It’s kind of important since our parents are immigrants, that we, as American citizens, come here and show that the culture is still alive,” said Daniela Buenrostro.
El Grito is a partnership between the city of /Coachella, the Greater Coachella Valley chamber of commerce, the consulate of Mexico of san Bernardino
