San Ysidro Border Crossing closed due to construction

Drivers planning on heading into Mexico through the San Ysidro Border Crossing will need to find another route.

The border crossing will shut down for construction and Interstate 5 southbound traffic will be rerouted Saturday because of construction that will last until Monday.

The U.S. General Services Administration is modernizing and expanding the San Ysidro Port of Entry.

The closure is needed to remove the existing vehicle inspection canopy over I-5 south. Additional roadwork and the installation of underground utilities will take place.

All southbound traffic on I-5 and I-805 will be closed south of SR-905 for 57 hours, starting Saturday, Sept. 23 at 3 a.m.

The easternmost exit lanes to I-5 north will remain open during this time.

The closure will end Monday, September 25 at noon.
