Heat and Red Flag Warning in Riverside County
A red flag fire warning issued by the weather service for Riverside County and other areas of Southern California is in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The mercury soared to a record-breaking high Tuesday in Riverside of 102 degrees, while in Palm Springs, the record of 104 degrees was matched.

According to the National Weather Service, the previous record of 101 degrees in Riverside on this date in 1959 was shattered as hot and dry conditions gripped the Inland Empire.
In Palm Springs, the 104-degree high equaled the one set in 2003.

The region remains under an excessive heat warning until 8 p.m. Tuesday, and temperatures are expected to rise back into triple digits in many locations by mid-afternoon tomorrow.

Winds topped 30 mph in multiple locations throughout Riverside County Monday, propelling wildfires in Moreno Valley, San Jacinto and Winchester.

“Upon ignition, fires will grow rapidly and will be difficult to control,” according to the Santa Ana Wildfire Threat Index from the U.S. Forest Service.
The gusty Santa Ana winds and extremely low humidity are creating tinderbox conditions that won’t abate until a ridge of high pressure parked over the Great Basin in Nevada and Utah slides farther east, according to forecasters.
Winds will begin to die down by Wednesday.
Higher humidity, lower temperatures and lighter winds are expected by Thursday across all of Riverside County, according to the weather service, though temperatures will remain above average for this time of year.
