Tribute planned for Palm Springs mother allegedly killed by teen son

We are learning more about the woman who police suspect was shot dead by her son in Palm Springs on Monday.

Amber Lane, 36, was an employee at Wang’s in the Desert in Palm Springs and did public relations and marketing for the restaurant, according to restaurant employees.

KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 learned that Lane posted a status on her Facebook page just two hours before the shooting occurred that reads:

“I’m tired has more meanings than I can possibly explain.”

According to Palm Springs police, Lane was in “extremely critical condition” after a shooting that happened in the 4100 block of Calle San Antonio at 4:25 a.m.

Lane succumbed to her injuries on Monday afternoon and authorities eventually arrested her son, 19-year-old Brian Conroy, as a suspect.

Conroy is charged with murder and a sentence-enhancing allegation for discharging a firearm.

Reporter Katie Widner reached out to a close friend of Amber — identified as Lori — who met with her on Sunday night, hours before the shooting occurred.

She said Amber was married to her husband, David, on April 21, 2016 in Palm Desert with the reception being held at Wang’s in the Desert.

The couple had been together long before they were married and the marriage merged two families: Amber and her son, Brian, with David and his daughter, Sammy, and his son, Andrew.

Lori said the brothers were very close, saying that Andrew looked up to Brian.

David is the General Manager at Wang’s in the Desert, and Brian also worked there as a bar-back and was a joy to work with, according to Lori.

She described them as a typical family and Brian as a great kid who loved his mother. However, Amber did express concerns about Brian the night before the shooting, but was not afraid of him.

KESQ News Channel 3 checked with Palm Springs Police. A spokesperson tells us that there had been no history of calls for police from the Palm Springs home where the shooting took place. There is also no record of police involvement in any disturbance involving the family at Wang’s, either.

Wang’s in the Desert sadly must inform the public that early Monday morning one of our very own, Amber Lane, was shot and died as reported in the news.

We mourn and celebrate Amber Lane as she was the brightest star in our family. Each of us at Wang’s and throughout the Desert community was touched by her infectious excitement. We extend to her husband David our General manager, Andrew- her stepson, and Amber’s family and friends our deepest sympathies.

The restaurant is hosting a tribute event to Amber Lane this weekend.
