Palm Springs breaks temperature record for Nov.22

The heat is on in Palm Springs, after a record breaking day for city.

Palm Springs hit 95 degrees by 2 p.m. on Wednesday and eventually peaked to 96 degrees, breaking the previous record of 93 degrees for Nov. 22 that was set in 1933, according to the National Weather Service.

Official final temperature numbers have yet to be announced.

Southern California is expected break temperature throughout records on Wednesday and is the hottest area in the nation.

The National Weather Service says the heat is being spawned by a very strong high pressure area off the coast of northern Baja California with a ridge extending into southwestern California.
