Settlement conference delayed for woman convicted in murder of stepson

Patricia Brown, a La Quinta woman convicted in the 2003 second-degree murder and assault of her 2-year-old stepson, had her status conference hearing delayed on Monday.

Defense attorney Rod Soda, representing Patricia Brown, decided on a date to begin with sentencing and to update her appeal status.

A short hearing is expected on Dec. 8, but proceedings should begin on Dec. 11 at Larson Justice Center in Indio.

Patricia Brown was found guilty in Jan. 2016 of second-degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old stepson, Deetrick Brown, who died on Jan. 16, 2003.

Her husband, Derrick Brown, was acquitted while testimony continued for Patricia.
