Desert Hot Springs teachers to be recognized at city council meeting
Two Desert Hot Springs teachers recently recognized by the state and county for their efforts in the classroom will also be honored by the city on Tuesday during its regular city council meeting.
The council will take time out of its 5:30 p.m. regular meeting to recognize Brian McDaniel, a music teacher from Painted Hills Middle School, and Michelle Beyronneau, a math teacher at Desert Hot Springs High School, both of whom were named Riverside County Teachers of the Year earlier this year.

McDaniel, who has taught instrumental and vocal music at Painted Hills for the past two years, was later named a 2018 California Teacher of the Year, one of five educators recognized as such throughout California.
Beyronneau and fellow Riverside County Teacher of the Year Edwin Detoya, who teaches robotics at Bobby Duke Middle School in Coachella, were also among the top 20 finalists for the state’s Teacher of the Year award.
“To have not one, but two outstanding teachers from Desert Hot Springs selected as Riverside County Teachers of the Year is an outstanding accomplishment for the individuals being recognized and our community,” Mayor Scott Matas said.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support and dedication that Dr. Brian McDaniel and Michelle Beyronneau provide for their students. This community is lucky to have these dedicated educators who are so committed to the growth and development of our youth.”
